What is the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)?

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is a nationwide verification of electoral rolls conducted by the Election Commission of India (ECI). Its objective is to ensure that every eligible citizen is included in the electoral roll while removing duplicate, shifted, deceased or otherwise ineligible entries.

The SIR is being conducted across India in multiple phases during 2026. Each State and Union Territory follows its own schedule for house-to-house verification, publication of draft electoral rolls, claims and objections, and publication of the final electoral roll.

During the SIR, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) visit households to verify voter details and distribute Enumeration Forms.

Whether you are an existing voter, a first-time voter or someone who needs to update voter details, participating in the SIR will help ensure your name remains correctly entered in the electoral roll.

Why is the 2002 Electoral Roll Important?

During the current Special Intensive Revision (SIR), the Election Commission is using the Electoral Roll prepared during the last nationwide intensive revision (2002–2004) as an important reference database for verification.

If your name, or the names of your parents or grandparents, already appear in those earlier electoral rolls, it may help election officials verify your details more easily during the current SIR process.

If the required details cannot be verified from the earlier electoral rolls, election officials may ask for additional information or documents in accordance with the Election Commission's instructions.

Being absent from the 2002 Electoral Roll does not automatically mean that your name will be deleted or that you are ineligible to vote. Where necessary, the Election Commission provides an opportunity for further verification.
