Know Your MLA

As of June 2026, seven seats in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly are vacant and awaiting by-elections. One vacancy arose after Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, who was elected from both Perambur and Tiruchi East in the 2026 Assembly elections, chose to retain the Perambur constituency, thereby vacating Tiruchi East constituency. The remaining six vacancies resulted from the resignation of AIADMK legislators who subsequently joined the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).

The vacant constituencies are:

• Tiruchi East – Vacated by C. Joseph Vijay
• Madurantakam – Vacated by Maragatham Kumaravel
• Dharapuram – Vacated by P. Sathyabama
• Perundurai – Vacated by S. Jayakumar
• Ambasamudram – Vacated by Esaki Subaya
• Tiruvallur – Vacated by V. G. Raajendran
• Karur – Vacated by M.R. Vijayabhaskar

As a result of these developments, the AIADMK's strength in the Assembly has declined from its original tally of 47 seats won in the 2026 election to 41 members at present (July 2026). The representation status of the seven vacant constituencies will be updated following the conduct of by-elections and the declaration of results.
