When and How to Apply for Deletion of a Voter's Name

A voter-roll register with an entry being removed, reviewed under a magnifying glass

Form 7 is used to request the deletion of a name from the Electoral Roll or to raise an objection to the inclusion of an entry in the Electoral Roll.

When to Use Form 7

You may use Form 7 if:

  • A voter has passed away.
  • A voter has permanently shifted to another place and is no longer ordinarily resident in the constituency.
  • A person's name appears more than once in the Electoral Roll.
  • You wish to object to the inclusion of a name that is not eligible to remain in the Electoral Roll.

The Election Commission will verify every application before taking any action. Simply submitting Form 7 does not automatically result in deletion of a name.

Who Can Apply?

Form 7 may be submitted by:

  • The voter concerned.
  • A family member of the voter.
  • Any person with valid grounds for seeking deletion or raising an objection, subject to verification by the Election Commission.

False or frivolous objections should not be made.

When Should Form 7 Be Used?

Use Form 7 in the following situations:

Deceased Voter

If a registered voter has passed away, a family member or another eligible person may request deletion of the name from the Electoral Roll.

Permanent Change of Residence

If a voter has permanently shifted to another Assembly Constituency and has registered there, the old entry may be deleted after verification.

Duplicate Registration

A voter should be registered only once in the Electoral Roll. If the same person's name appears more than once, Form 7 may be used to request deletion of the duplicate entry.

Objection to Inclusion

If you believe a person is wrongly included in the Electoral Roll because they are not ordinarily resident or are otherwise ineligible, you may submit Form 7. The Election Commission will issue notice and conduct verification before making any decision.

Before You Apply

Keep the following information ready, wherever applicable:

  • EPIC (Voter ID) Number
  • Name of the voter
