Overview

Telangana is India's youngest major state, formed on 2 June 2014 after being carved out of the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh following a prolonged statehood movement. Hyderabad was designated as the capital of Telangana and has emerged as one of India's leading technology and innovation hubs.

Telugu is the principal language of Telangana, while Urdu is the second official language. The state's culture reflects a blend of Telugu and Deccani traditions shaped by the Kakatiyas, Qutb Shahis and Nizams. Major festivals include Bathukamma, Bonalu, Dasara and Ramzan.

The state is known for information technology, pharmaceuticals, aerospace manufacturing and services. Hyderabad hosts major global technology companies and research institutions, while agriculture remains important across rural Telangana.
