BRS MLC Defections Update

As of June 2026, a total of 6 Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLCs have defected to the ruling Congress in the Telangana Legislative Council. Following these cross-overs, the current strength in the 40-member Upper House stands at 13 for INC (Congress Party) and 18 for BRS.

Vacant Seat: Nizamabad Local Authorities

The Telangana Legislative Council has 40 seats, of which 39 are currently filled and 1 is vacant.

Kalvakuntla Kavitha resigned from the Legislative Council (Nizamabad Local Authorities Constituency) after being elected to the Lok Sabha, creating the vacancy in the Nizamabad Local Authorities seat since January 2026.

The six-year terms of Telangana Legislative Council (MLC) members Gorati Venkanna, Basavaraju Saraiah, and Boggarapu Dayanand, who were all nominated under the Governor's quota in November 2020, are scheduled to officially conclude with their retirement on November 14, 2026.
